Valley Public Television (KVPT) – Director, Leadership Giving

Join Valley Public Television, the Central Valley’s primary PBS station, as a Director of Leadership Giving. The Director of Leadership Giving will cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned giving donors through proactive outreach including personal contact, special events and written communication. The primary goal of this position is to significantly increase unrestricted major gift ($1000+) donations, bequests and charitable gift annuities. This position collaborates with the CEO and the KVPT Board of Directors and reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute a sustained personalized solicitation and stewardship program for major prospects and donors.
    • Program includes ongoing and frequent personal meetings with donors, a range of special events, and written communications for targeted major gift portfolio.
    • Create, implement, update and refine work plans to acquire new major donors along with planned gifts through bequests and charitable gift annuities.
    • Track portfolio revenue and expenses.
    • Plan and execute major donor focused cultivation and solicitation events.
  • Conceptualize and plan programs and events designed to cultivate, recruit, upgrade and recognize new and current members of the Valley Public Television Society.
    • Develop and draft invitation lists, initiate appropriate solicitation and cultivation mailings and emails. Coordinate with other appropriate KVPT staff to ensure appropriate participation and follow-up.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and appropriate Development staff to systematically identify individuals who have upgrade potential to major giving.
    • Create campaigns (on-air spots and online) to promote Valley Public Television Society and Legacy Circle (Planned Giving) members.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of major and planned giving best practices, and proven track record in successfully securing high-end gifts.
  • Passion for and consumer of public broadcasting.
  • Familiarity with current tax laws concerning planned gifts.
  • Team orientation to problem solving and achieving goals and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage budgets and meet time lines.
  • Ability to creatively use staff and volunteers to complete projects in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently accomplish work, using Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, database management software.
  • Availability to work evening work hours as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • College degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. CFRE preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in major and planned giving fundraising. Experience with cultivating, soliciting and securing major and planned gifts in an academic, cultural, or public broadcasting organization preferred.
